''Collecting the spoils''.

Rivington Pike race winners have been awarded some fine medals and trophies to remind them of their achievements over the years. The large central boxed medal above is one such award to add to the victorious athletes collection.

Winning 'pike racers' get to hold the champions trophies for a year. Here we can see the men's 'Moss challenge cup' (above left) which was first awarded to the winning man in 1969 after Horwich Councilor, Roy Moss donated the trophy. The ladies 'Doris Moss ladies pike race trophy' (bottom left) was donated by Councilor Moss's wife in 1978 to be awarded to the very first womens winner. It was Brenda Robinson of Bury A.C. who raced it out to become the first female winner and take the women's 'spoils'. Fittingly, the new men's cup in 1969 was lifted by Alan Blinston whilst taking his 'hat-trick' win, and so celebrate the presentation of the new award in style.
